THEIR MISSION

Chicago Abused Women Coalition is committed to ending violence against women.   They strive to empower women so they can live free of domestic violence.

THEIR STORY

In 1976 a landmark meeting was held in Chicago to address the crisis of women abuse.  This gathering resulted in the formation of a task force that ultimately became the Chicago Abused Women Coalition.

With no models for guidance, relying only on the experience of the women who had survived domestic abuse, CAWC initiated the first domestic violence services program in Chicago.  In 1977, they established the first shelter for battered women and their children in 1979.

CAWC programs provide shelter and support services to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence.  All CAWC services are based on a philosophy of self-help and are designed to empower women to enhance their safety and well being.  Since CAWC’s inception as the first domestic violence program in Chicago, the agency has served over 26,000 women and children; provided 790,000 meals; 218,500 nights of lifesaving refuge through Greenhouse Shelter and over 500,000 hours of counseling and education.

You can help CAWC by supporting the 1st Annual "Girls Gone Riding...for Charity" motorcycle event.  Please contact Brawin of Events by Brawin for more information on sponsorship opportunities and/or event registration.
