Events by Brawin is pleased to be apart of the Public Relations campaign supporting the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

As we all know by now, Hurricane Katrina has wrecked havoc on the coastal towns of Louisiana and Mississippi.

Hundreds of thousands of people have lost all of their belongings and some of their spirit.  The number of deaths in New Orleans alone is expected to exceed 10,000.

The true impact of Hurricane Katrina may not be known for years to come as disease is expected to claim many more lives.

Many of the people who remain are homeless, hopeless and without the bare necessities needed to exist with some dignity.

At this point, the main objective for many of the humanitarian and government agencies is to provide shelter, clothing, food and water in an attempt to return the survivors (not refugees) to some level of normalcy.  Their lives have been devastated beyond what most of us can comprehend.  The need for assistance, any and all, is dire.

If you have not already done so, we beg of you to please make a donation - of any size.

In addition to the well known national organizations listed below, your local churches, firehouses and police stations are also accepting donations.  Many of the local efforts are focused on the collection of toiletries, clothes and toys for the children.

If you live in Chicago, it is important to note that hurricane victims are now being evacuated to our area.    An abandoned mental health facility has been turned into a shelter.  The shelter opened today and it is located in Tinley Park at 183rd and Harlem.  In addition to volunteers, they are in need of air mattresses, clothing, underwear, non-perishable foods and so much more.  You can contact Sister Alexander at 708.758.2300.

The true spirit of a nation is reflected in how people respond to tragedy.  While there is much debate about how our government responded, I think we are all in agreement that these survivors need our prayers and support.  Our office has received many inquiries about how to help.

  • Will my small donation really make a difference?

The answer is emphatically YES.  This I the largest relief effort in recent US history.  Every dollar helps when you think about the sheer number of people who have lost everything that they own.

  • What organization can I really trust?

When making a charitable donation, many of us are concerned that the moneys aren't really going where we intended or for the purposes that we intended.  In an attempt to facilitate your support of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort, I am providing information on organizations that are credible and trustworthy.  You will find phone numbers and links to their websites.  Please be sure to denote that your contribution be ear-marked for the Hurricane Katrina Fund.

We hope that you have found this information valuable.
