EVENTS BY BRAWIN NEWSLETTER - VALENTINE'S DAY EDITION

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today lovers will exchange tokens of affection and appreciation - all in the name of St. Valentine.  The history of Valentine's Day and its' patron saint has long been shrouded in mystery.  But we do know that the month of February has long been celebrated as a month of romance.

If you are still without special plans but have good intentions and really want to impress that special someone, then here is an idea that never disappoints - if planned properly and executed lovingly!

ULTIMATE VALENTINE'S DAY GIFT - EXTRA ROMANTIC DINNER

If you are a skilled cook and can plan a menu quickly then the offering of an extra romantic dinner is the idea for you.  Cooking for someone is one of the sexiest offerings that you can make - any time of the year.  I won't give you menu suggestions since the actual offerings aren't as important as the way the evening is presented.

I would be remiss, however, if I did not suggest incorporating the following items into your menu:

  • Oysters (fresh fish market will clean them and instruct you on how to enjoy them at meal time)

  • Caviar (visit a world market and a consultant will be able to give you recommendations on how to incorporate caviar)

  • Chocolate (which can be enjoyed with dinner or preferably with the 'after dinner' festivities)

  • Champagne, champagne and more champagne

TOP 5 TIPS FOR A FABULOUS VALENTINE'S DINNER

Choose dishes that you have prepared before and are confident preparing.  This will avoid you having to spend too much time away from your valentine between courses.  Prepare as much as you can in advance of their arrival and you will be able to focus on enjoying the meal - not to mention the fun that is sure to follow!

Set the scene for romance.  Release your inner event planner and go all out.  If not now, when?  Bring out your fanciest china,  stemware, table cloth and napkins.  Add floating candles as well as tall upright candelabras.   To really up the 'wow' factor, place a framed photo of you and your loved one at his/her place setting.  These small extra touches will show your valentine just how important they are to you.

Keep portions small and dine at a leisurely pace to avoid feeling overstuffed on foods that are too rich.  The goal is to create a dining experience that excites - but doesn't overload - the senses.

Use your IPOD to create a Valentine's Day play list of your favorite love songs and let it play throughout the evening.  In addition to any other gift you may present, you can also give your valentine a copy of the songs that you selected for the evening.  It will serve as a reminder of your fantastic evening together.

Splurge on nice bottles of champagne to set the mood and show how much you care.  Be sure to open the champagne properly.  It's sure to impress your valentine:

  • Untwist and remove the wire cage around the cork.  Be sure to keep your thumb on top of the cork just in case the pressure is great enough to push the cork out.

  • Place a cloth napkin over the cork so that if the cork pops you will avoid injuries.

  • Twist the bottle (not the cap!) and twist until you feel the cork release.

  • Resist the urge to pop the cork as this results in carbon dioxide and upsets the champagne.

There you have it.  My top 5 suggestions for making this an unforgettable Valentine's Day!  Your valentine will surely love you for it.
